About Cathy, the brains behind this operation
Hello, my name is Cathy Disbrow. I love to create. I love storytelling through pictures. I like to make people smile. I like to educate. I like to share. I like to explore.
For as far back as I can remember I loved working with my hands on all types of arts and crafts. With a huge imagination, I was constantly creating things, whether it was with crayons, markers, clay, paints, construction paper or finding myself knee deep in the mud whipping together a muddy masterpiece. Art was my favorite subject in school, so it was only natural that I would follow my calling and train in the different fine art courses offered in college. After exploring many of the artistic mediums, I became interested in digital design and spent 18 years working in the print and web design field. Over the years I started to have a strong desire to work with my hands again and to not stare at a computer screen all day. I shifted my artistic focus on projects that allow me to create with wool and color pencil. My current obsession has quickly become needle felting where I design woolly creatures and love every minute of it.
I trained in illustration at Towson University near Baltimore, Maryland. I took children's book courses at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland.
I am a member of the Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers (CANSCAIP) and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
